Todos Santos Cuchumatán - Carrera de las Ánimas

The highland Mam Maya town of Todos Santos Cuchumatán holds a three-day All Saints' festival culminating on November 1 with the 'souls' race,' in which costumed riders gallop a course while drinking, continuing until they fall or drop out. The tradition is accompanied by marimba music and dancing, and is one of Guatemala's most distinctive indigenous celebrations.
