Every August 14, the Pueblo Mágico of Huamantla, Tlaxcala, stays awake through the night as artisans lay more than seven kilometers of elaborate sawdust, flower, and pigmented-sand carpets across the streets, ahead of a nocturnal procession carrying the image of the Virgen de la Caridad. The ephemeral carpets are destroyed by the procession within hours of completion, and the event is part of the broader month-long Feria de Huamantla. It is considered one of Mexico's most distinctive religious folk-art traditions. (Date shown is estimated from the event's typical annual timing — confirm with the organizer closer to the date.)
