Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun) is one of the most important Andean indigenous celebrations, marking the summer solstice and the corn harvest. In the Otavalo region of Ecuador, the Kichwa communities celebrate with particular intensity: five days of ritual bathing in sacred waterfalls, bonfires, traditional music, dancing, chicha (fermented corn beer), and ceremonial offerings to Pachamama. The town of Otavalo — famous for its indigenous textile market — becomes the centre of this extraordinary living tradition.
