Festival Folclórico de Parintins (Boi-Bumbá)

Brazil's second-largest festival by attendance after Rio Carnival, this three-night Amazonian spectacle in the purpose-built Bumbódromo arena pits two rival folklore groups, Garantido (red) and Caprichoso (blue), against each other in retelling the Boi-Bumbá legend of a bull brought back to life. Massive floats, indigenous-influenced costumes and choreography make it one of Brazil's most visually striking cultural events.
