Held every December 28 since 1823, the Hatillo Mask Festival is a Puerto Rican twist on the Feast of the Holy Innocents. Costumed 'mascaras' wearing horned, brightly patterned papier-mâché masks parade through the north-coast town, playing pranks and dancing in a tradition rooted in the trickster figure of Puerto Rican folklore.
