Círio de Nazaré 2026

The Círio de Nazaré is the most important religious event in Brazil and one of the largest Catholic processions in the world. Held on the second Sunday of October in Belém, Pará, over 2 million people — including wheelchair-bound devotees and people crawling on their knees — crowd the streets of the Amazonian city to pull the golden rope attached to the 18th-century image of the Virgin of Nazareth. The Círio is a profound expression of faith, community, and Amazon culture, followed by a two-week festival of music, food, and celebrations.
